Happy Birthday Canada!

CanadaDay It’s Canada Day and that means Canada is celebrating 143 youthful years!

Time to head on out to your local celebrations or pull out the barbeque and celebrate the day with friends and family.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you have fun doing it!  It’s a day to relax and to pay tribute to this fine land.

  • 33.7 Million people live in Canada.
  • There are 12.4 million households in Canada.
  • Canada covers 9,984,670 sq. km (3,855,103 sq. mi.) of North American land.
  • 377,703 Babies are born in Canada each year.
  • The average life expectancy in Canada is 80.4 Years.
  • Canada is the largest producer of natural Uranium in the whole world. (20-30%)
  • Basketball was invented in Canada by Dr. James Naismith in 1891.
  • The average Canadian watches 21 hours of TV per week.  That’s one quarter (1/4) of their life.

About Canada Day

  • There were no official celebrations of Canada Day until 1958.
  • 10 villages in Ontario were flooded on Canada Day in 1958 for the St Lawrence Seaway. The villages are now known as the lost villages.
  • Cross-country television transmission by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation began on Canada Day in 1958.
  • Color Television was first introduced to Canada on Canada Day in 1967.
  • “Oh Canada” became the official national anthem of Canada on Canada day in 1980.
  • Originally, the official celebration of Canada Day was held only in Ottawa. However from 1980 onwards, the special day for Canada is celebrated in every municipality across the nation. The celebration includes multi-cultural concerts, fireworks, parades, air shows, maritime shows, and barbecue.
