Recipe: Savory Grilled Asparagus

asparagus

Are you a fan of asparagus?  I sure am!  As a kid, I don’t recall ever being exposed to this tasty vegetable.  If I had been, I probably wouldn’t have liked it.  It does tend to have an acquired taste.

As an adult, it took me a couple of tries before I really started enjoying the taste.  Now I can’t get enough of it.

From a camping perspective, asparagus is a great addition to any dinner.  It’s a hearty and healthy vegetable that is so easy to cook, well it almost cooks itself!

If you’re the grill master at your site, then this recipe is right up your alley.  You just clean it, coat it, and grill it.  In a few minutes, you have a very tasty vegetable to add to any meal.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 2-3 minutes
Total Time: 12-13 minutes
Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch of asparagus
  • Olive Oil
  • Sea salt
  • Fresh ground pepper
  • Garlic Seasoning
Instructions:

  1. Wash the asparagus and trim off the bottom ends to where the green begins to fade.  (I prefer to break the asparagus, as opposed to cutting it.)
  2. Lightly coat the asparagus in olive oil and sprinkle on the salt, pepper and garlic.
  3. Heat the grill up to high heat.
  4. Place asparagus on the grill for 2-3 minutes, turning a quarter of a turn about every 30 seconds.  When the asparagus is done, it will start to show brown spots.
  5. Remove from grill and serve hot.
Variations:

  • Try using melted butter instead of olive oil.
