Video – Brought Back From The Brink of Extinction

27 Jun

Movie SignThe complete restoration of a 1958 Stanley travel trailer makes this week’s video of the week.

This 10 minute video will take you on a journey as a classic that was all but forgotten is given a second chance at life.  It’s stripped down to nothing then reassembled with remarkable precision.

I consider this a testimony to all the do-it-yourselfers out there who aren’t afraid of a little hard work.  Old trailers need not be thrown away and used for scrap, sometimes they just need a makeover.

Economy Bounces Back, RV Sales Skyrocket

26 Jun

Money SignIt’s been an interesting couple of years for the economy in North America.  It wasn’t that long ago that downsizing held the market share off news headlines as millions of Americans and Canadians lost their jobs.  Times were bleak and the word recession was often used to describe the situation.

Thankfully those times are moving behind us now, as the economy picks up.  Let’s take a look at just how well the RV market is bouncing back.

Video – The Manufacturing of a Popup Tent Trailer

20 Jun

Movie SignThis week’s video of the week is very exciting for me.  I’m a big fan of the television show How It’s Made, and this video is a clip from the show.

How It’s Made is a tv show that is all about a behind the scenes look at the manufacturing of common products found in the marketplace.  Everything from erasers to dump trucks have been featured.

This particular episode features the manufacturing of a popup tent trailer.  You get to follow a popup as it makes it’s way down the assembly line.

Recipe: Delicious Campfire Baked Potatoes

16 Jun

Baked PotatoesBack with another recipe – this time it’s the ever popular baked potato.

The beauty of this recipe is that you don’t need any special appliances or tools to cook it.  You can bake these potatoes right in your campfire.

Potatoes are great because they don’t need to be refridgerated, which means you save valuable space in your cooler!  They are also a tasty and filling addition to just about any meal you can come up with.

Baking them in the campfire is just one more way to create a healthy and hearty family dinner.

Thoughts and Prayers for the Arkansas Flood Victims

13 Jun

ss-100612-arkflood-07.ss_full This might be old news to some of you, but that makes it no less of a tragedy.

In the early hours of Friday, June 11 2010, a flash flood ripped through the popular Albert Pike Recreation Area campground in Langley, Arkansas.  As campers slept peacefully in their tents and RVs, rivers began to swell at a rate of 8 feet per hour.

As the flood waters slammed into the campground, many families were left scrambling to get to higher ground in the darkness of the night forest.

At the time of this post, 18 campers have been confirmed dead and 22 people are still missing.

Video – Bert and Ernie Go Camping

12 Jun

Movie SignAs promised, we’ve doubled up on the video of the week.  That should make up for last week’s shortcoming.

This video is another blast from the past – specifically 1982!

Watch Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie  as they camp under the stars.  In typical Bert and Ernie fashion, the dynamic duo have differing opinions about what they should be doing.

For anyone who was a youngster in the early 1980′s, this video might just spark some nostalgia.  It certainly did for me.

Video – Camping in 1934 with Mickey Mouse

10 Jun

Movie SignIt’s time for last week’s Video of the Week!

Wait, what?

We didn’t quite get to the video of the week last week, so we are doubling up this week.

This weeks video is a flashback to the past.  It’s an old black and white Mickey Mouse cartoon that chronicles a battle between Mickey, Minnie, Horace, and Clarabelle and a pesky mosquito that just won’t let them enjoy their camping trip.
